St. Louis Beacon

Beacon Staff Writer, Elia Powers attended last weeks Happy Hour Social Networking Activity at Moonrise roof-top lounge.  See Elia’s write-up about YAPA here: http://www.stlbeacon.org/the_feed/new_asian-american_group

YAPA would like to encourage you to become part of the Public Insight Network (PIN) and share your experiences with the St. Louis Beacon!

The Public Insight Network for the St. Louis Beacon and KETC/Channel 9 is made up of hundreds of people throughout the St. Louis area who have agreed to share what they know to help us cover the news, find stories, and add depth to our reporting.

As part of KETC/St. Louis Beacon’s Public Insight Network, you have an open line into our newsroom. After you agree to be a source in the network, we’ll send you an e-mail about once a month — based on your expressed experience and interest — asking for your knowledge on issues and stories we are pursuing.

In our next query, we are asking drivers what they have discovered as they detour around the Interstate 64/Highway 40 construction work. YAPA members may begin contributing to the PIN right away by clicking on the link and answering the series of questions: What have you found on your detours? Your responses will help reporter Kristen Hare as she prepares a story on this topic. The PIN also gives you an easy way to suggest stories that deserve our attention.

Thank you St. Louis Beacon for giving YAPA a voice!

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

YAPA would like to extend its thoughts and prayers to the victims of the largest natural disaster to hit Taiwan in 50 years, Typhoon Morakot, over the weekend of Aug 8-9.  The death toll stands at 117 but the Office of the President, Taiwan believes the numbers could surpass 500 still buried underneath mass mountain slides.  Thousands are without homes and rescue efforts continue.  Please contact info@yapastl.org if you are interested in making a contribution.  There are many relief funds that have been established.  YAPA will continue to monitor as recovery efforts unfold and make donations to the appropriate relief organization.

Thursday, July 30, 2009 – YAPA participated in the Asian Pacific Heritage Night Celebration at Busch Stadium to watch the Cardinals play against the Dodgers. Notification of this event initially started about two weeks prior to game night. Eight days to game day, YAPA learned that only 12 tickets had been sold and the event was to being cancelled. YAPA then initiated a campaign to rally Asians in the greater St. Louis area to come out to not only support the hometown world champion Cardinals, but to also represent and celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage. The word quickly spread and many individuals and sponsors came out in support.
